Bold and Fearless: Melanie Sykes Reveals Her Fully Shaved Head Following Her Emotional Hair Loss Disclosure
Melanie Sykes is proving just how resilient she is. The 55-year-old television personality shared a photo of her completely shaved head on Instagram only days after speaking candidly about the heartbreaking effects of living with alopecia.

Alongside a striking selfie bearing the caption, “Loss + Gain = Life”, Melanie smiled confidently into the camera, meeting her autoimmune condition with optimism and determination. Earlier, she had told followers she was “two-thirds bald,” offering an honest look at her experience with hair loss and the emotional challenges it has brought.
The presenter has spoken openly about a year of ongoing health issues, including inflammation and autoimmune flare-ups, explaining how she has continued moving forward without losing her inner strength. She also revealed that she has been training to become a meditation teacher, adding that she has “mostly been living a very, very, very spiritual existence.”
By sharing her story, Melanie has helped raise awareness of alopecia, a condition that affects roughly 2% of the population and occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles. Although treatments are available, there is no guaranteed cure, and hair may return over the course of months or even years.
Even in the face of these difficulties, Melanie continues to emphasize the importance of humour, resilience, and self-acceptance. Speaking about her baldness, she quipped, “Every time I say I’m bald I laugh… Thank god I can laugh.”

Supporters have flooded her with messages of encouragement, applauding her courage while inspiring others facing similar experiences to remain hopeful. Melanie’s story shows that true confidence has nothing to do with hair—it comes from embracing exactly who you are.
